It is time to register for the Annual Tour de l’Ile in Montreal, part of the Montreal Bike Festival that heralds the start of the festival season and announces the presence of bicyclists on the Montreal streets. The Montreal Bike Fest runs from May 27th to June 3rd 2012 and features several great bike events around the city, culminating with The Tour de l’Ile, Sunday June 3rd, a fifty kilometre bike tour around the city starting at 9:15am at Avenue du Parc and circling the island ending at nearby Parc Jeanne-Mance. The entire route is closed to cars, making this a fun and safe way to see the city from a whole new perspective: by bicycle, alongside an estimated 25 000 participants!
The Montreal Bike Fest features many other activities besides the Tour de l’Ile, like operation bike-to-work on May 1st and the romantic un Tour la nuit on Friday June 1st starting at 8:15 pm where you can join an estimated 17 000 participants biking through the warm summer air and enjoying Montreal by night. This circuit is 22km.
If you don’t have a bicycle in Montreal, don’t worry about it, not only are there several places where you can rent a bike for the day, Bixi is offering a special for participants of the Tour, pay only $10 to rent a bixi bike for the tour. (Registration fees not included in the bixi price.)
